The main symptom is severe diarrhea, but the disease can also affect the respiratory tract or lead to sepsis which can quickly lead to death. It also causes mortality of embryos and young chicks.
The diagnosis is made by culture but the interpretation is difficult due to the normal presence of the bacteria in small quantities in the digestive tract.
Your veterinarian will usually prescribe antibiotics and vitamin support.
Hospitalization and rehydration may be necessary in severe cases.
Good hygiene of premises and birds (deworming, no food deficiency, etc.) is the best prevention against this disease.
