Parrot Endangered

In this category you will find all the species belonging to the psittaciformes order, which includes parrots, parakeets and cockatoos. This category of birds is divided into three main families:

Cacatuidae (cockatoo family found in Oceania)
Psittacidae (largest family, it includes parakeets and parrots that live in South America and Africa)
Strigropidae (a relatively small family of New Zealand parrots with the iconic Kakapo)
Parrots are very intelligent and sociable animals. They have a tongue and a vocal cord physiologically similar to humans. Its abilities, added to their very keen hearing, make parrots remarkable imitators. In the wild, their fidelity is also impressive. A breeding pair very often remains linked for life.

These birds are threatened nowadays. Once only found in South America, Africa and Oceania, psittaciformes are found all over the world today. Victims of poaching, many were taken from their natural environment to supply the pet market.

It should also be noted that psittaciformes are endowed with remarkable longevity. Some can easily live more than fifty years.
