it is one of the most fantastic pets, but not a bird for beginners. Indeed, it is a rather capricious and extroverted companion. It is therefore best to first know how to educate and manage it optimally.

If you are well prepared, the Amazon parrot becomes a pet that can be colorful. If he knows very well what he wants, he can also be very social, sociable, affectionate, and loving.

Take it for granted: Amazon is very talkative and speaks loudly, especially in the morning and evening.

It’s important that you don’t leave your parrot on its own so that it doesn’t get boring and destructive. So you have to play with it a lot, interact socially and train it.

Also, give him lots of toys that stimulate him mentally and that you can change regularly. They will occupy your Amazon parrot well.

It is best to give him fruit, vegetables, and pellets. Your bird can also eat an enriched seed mix, supplemented with egg paste during the breeding season.

But know that with pellets, your parrot is sure to get all the essentials in the right proportions and in the right quantity.

This is all the more important in the Amazon parrot because the latter is susceptible to obesity.

The Amazon parrot can be kept indoors in a cage as well as outdoors in an aviary. The aviary must consist of an indoor space without drafts, where the temperature is more than 10°C. Also, provide perches. The aviary should be as large as possible: 4.5 x 1.5 x 2 m for a couple.

The cage must also be as spacious as possible in the living room: at least 120 x 80 x 100 cm for him.

If you keep two parrots together, the cage should measure 150 x 100 x 120 cm. A climbing tree is also recommended. Finally, provide food and water bowls that are easy to clean.

You can use crushed seashells as the bottom coating. Remove droppings and food scraps from the cage or aviary regularly, so that your bird does not come into contact with them when scratching the floor.

At the same time, regularly cleans or replace its litter box, sticks, branches, and toys, as well as its food and water bowls every day.

For breeding, it is best to keep Amazon parrots in groups so they can form pairs. Then give each pair its own cage. During the breeding season, from April onwards, males can indeed be aggressive towards other males and even injure them fatally.

A female Amazon parrot will lay her eggs in a nested block. The young will be raised better by their parents than by you as the breeder. They will only leave their parents when they have learned to eat alone and to fly.

It is best to buy this parrot after molting, i.e. around October/November. Only opt for a bird that has already fledged, can eat on its own, and was raised by its parents.
