The Amazon parrot can be kept indoors in a cage as well as outdoors in an aviary. The aviary must consist of an indoor space without drafts, where the temperature is more than 10°C. Also, provide perches. The aviary should be as large as possible: 4.5 x 1.5 x 2 m for a couple.

The cage must also be as spacious as possible in the living room: at least 120 x 80 x 100 cm for him.

If you keep two parrots together, the cage should measure 150 x 100 x 120 cm. A climbing tree is also recommended. Finally, provide food and water bowls that are easy to clean.

You can use crushed seashells as the bottom coating. Remove droppings and food scraps from the cage or aviary regularly, so that your bird does not come into contact with them when scratching the floor.

At the same time, regularly cleans or replace its litter box, sticks, branches, and toys, as well as its food and water bowls every day.

For breeding, it is best to keep Amazon parrots in groups so they can form pairs. Then give each pair its own cage. During the breeding season, from April onwards, males can indeed be aggressive towards other males and even injure them fatally.

A female Amazon parrot will lay her eggs in a nested block. The young will be raised better by their parents than by you as the breeder. They will only leave their parents when they have learned to eat alone and to fly.
